Bardon Hill is the highest point in all of Leicestershire and a place of special scientific interest.  Rare species of insect such as the Charnwood Red Spider. survive upon its sides and its peak is crowned with Oaks and Rowan trees.

Sadly, Despite the site having such a rich heritage and it's importance to nature; more than two thirds of it has disappeared due to blast quarrying and what remains is increasingly being encroached on by land developers.  Cliffe Hill which used to stand to the South East of Bardon Hill, and Pedlar Tar Hill which used to stand to the North West, (Amongst many others.) have totally disappeared from the landscape and pits are all that remains.
